Ventura Charlin, Ph.D.

Ventura is an applied statistician and finance & quantitative marketing research analyst with more than twenty-five years of hands-on experience using analytical techniques in applied finance, marketing and consumer credit risk.

Her work emphasizes the importance of leveraging information to make sound business and marketing decisions. And it is based on possessing a deep knowledge of all aspects of integrated marketing from conceptualization of strategy to test market design and implementation in roll-out. Currently, she does data science and business analytics consulting work for a variety of private companies and academic institutions in Chile and the U.S.

Before turning to consulting, Ventura managed the Analysis Group at Experian Decision Sciences in Santiago, Chile, where she led a team of analysts who worked on data intelligence projects. Previously, she was Manager of Strategic Analysis at the Risk Information Management Division of American Express in New York. And before, she was Director of List Services for the Young Families Division at The Reader’s Digest Association. Additionally, for almost ten years she managed the Quantitative Marketing Research and Segmentation Analysis Department at The Columbia House Company in New York. In all these capacities, she led teams that used quantitative techniques to support and promote the commercial and strategic objectives of the organization; developed advanced targeting and test-and-learn techniques to drive profitable growth using a variety of data mining and statistical modeling approaches; she also designed and implemented measurement-reporting solutions for clients based on Internet activity, customer profiles, and other data sources.

Her articles have appeared in a variety of academic journals such as the North American Journal of Economics and Finance, Journal of Alternative Investments, Applied Economic Letters, Finance Research Letters, Journal of Credit Risk, Journal of Operational Risk, Art & Perception, Color Research and Application, Evaluation Review, Psychometrika, American Journal of Public Health, Journal of Personality and Social Psychology, and Communications in Statistics, Simulation and Computation.

Ventura holds Ph.D. in Quantitative Methods in Psychology (Applied Statistics & Psychometrics) from the University of Southern California as well as a M.S. degree in Finance from the Zicklin School of Business at Baruch College (valedictorian) in New York. She also earned a degree in Psychology at the University of Chile.
